Gourmet Crab Takes The Cake
The premise of this column will usually be ‘Dining Out’ with Chris and Erin. But on our first try, we’re ‘Dining In.’ The opportunity came about to test crab cakes via mail order (who knew?) from Angelina’s of Maryland, and we jumped on it.
Natives of the area will know Angelina’s as the restaurant that, since the Fifties, built a reputation for the finest crab cakes in the area- with a host of “Best of …” awards to prove it. Now, the offshoot mail-order business can have original Angelina’s crab cakes to your door overnight.
Our package arrived right on schedule in a box packed with ice containing both 4 and 8 ounce crab cakes. Armed with the cooking instructions, Erin was kind enough to cook the cakes while I watched “Pardon the Interruption” on ESPN.
We sat down at the table a half-an-hour later with some fine adult beverages, a couple of piping hot sides, and our finished crab cakes. Much to our surprise, the crab cakes impressed- especially the huge chunks of lump crab meat and noticeable, but not overbearing, seasoning.
We are not ones to try and whip up a batch of crab cakes on our own, but we realized this to be a more than pleasant alternative, and potentially, a nice gift to send to someone outside of the Crab Cake State.
So, while it’s impossible to give a review of the ambiance (our house), the service (Erin), or the dishwasher (Chris), we will suggest that if you have a hankering for a crab cake and don’t want to miss “The Office,” give Angelina’s crab cakes a try. They are sure to impress!
