Chesapeake Sustainable Business Alliance (CSBA)
The Chesapeake Sustainable Business Alliance (CSBA) is an alliance that educates the public on the importance of supporting the local economy, and encourages businesses and consumers to be environmentally sustainable and socially responsible.
CSBA envisions a sustainable global economy as a network of Local Living Economies, building long-term economic empowerment and prosperity in communities through local business ownership, economic justice, cultural diversity and a healthy natural environment. Independent businesses create wealth by engaging local people in the production, marketing, and consumption of goods, they pay taxes, and reinvest in our communities.
CSBA educates the public to:
- Reduce material and energy costs - Recycle and reuse waste - Buy and sell locally.
By limiting the environmental impacts of doing business, we aim places for future generations to enjoy.

Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter (BARCS)
The Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter (BARCS) is the largest animal shelter in Baltimore City. Located behind M&T Bank Stadium, the shelter receives 12,000 unwanted, abused and stray animals each year. BARCS is working very hard to rescue and help improve the lives of Baltimore’s homeless animals.
Beyond finding homes for the animals in its care, BARCS also provides many services for the Baltimore community including: educating the public about responsible pet ownership; advocating the importance of spaying and neutering; tracking lost and found pets; off ering low-cost rabies shots; issuing city pet licenses; and providing pet obedience classes.
BARCS accomplishes all of its services on a shoestring budget, but with increased fi nancial support, it can achieve much more. With the support of Baltimore’s community, BARCS can find homes for even more pets, improve its limited and aging facility, provide medical care to the animals at the shelter, and further care for abused and abandoned animals.
